SGES Special Events

During the school year, SGES has several fun events that need a little explanation for new families. Here is a list of those special events with a little information about each one.

  • Curriculum Night:  This is for PARENTS ONLY.  This is a time for you to hear about what your child will be learning during the school year.  It is also where parents can sign up for a conference time for the following week.  I will go over how the PK 3 class blog will be used and answer any questions parents have.
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences:  This first conferences are for parents to inform teachers about your child.  This is the time to let the teacher know how your child responds to different circumstances.  The second conferences that are scheduled for the 3rd quarter are for teachers to inform parents of how their child is progressing and any areas that are in need of improvement.  If you feel that any time throughout the year you need to sit down with me, we can schedule a conference.   I am always available.
  • Blessing of the Animals:  This takes place one Friday morning in place of chapel.  Students are welcome to bring animals of all shapes and sizes to be blessed.  Examples of animals in the past horses, cows, pigs, sheep, dogs, cats, and rabbits.  Your child can bring a picture of an animal and have that blessed.  It is held outside in the Grove by the carpool lane.  ALL animals must leave campus with parents after Blessing of the Animals is over.
  • Grandparent/Grandfriends Day:  This is an 11:30 dismissal day.  This day is for students to show their Grandparents/Grandfriends what the classroom looks like and give them a special gift we make for them.
  • 11:30 Dismissal Days:  SGES has several 11:30 dismissal days during each school year.  On these days, we DO NOT eat lunch at school.  On 11:30 dismissal days, PK 3 students do not need a bookbag and please only send ONE snack.  Carpool will begin at 11:30, so please make arrangements for your child to be picked up.  Afterschool will be available most 11:30 dismissal days.
  • Class Parties:  PK 3 will have a class party for Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's, and end of the year.  The room parent is in charge of communicating with the volunteers for each party.  PK 3 students are happy with yummy snacks and games.  If you are not able to attend and you are willing to send in something, please let the room parent know.
  • Halloween:  Students are allowed to wear their Halloween costume to school on the day.  Keep in mind we will still go out for recess, weather permitting.  I do not want anyone's costume to be ruined before they go "trick or treating."
  • Thanksgiving Feast:  This is a time, before we leave for our week long Thanksgiving Break, for the entire student body, faculty, and staff to enjoy a meal together.  Parents are asked to volunteer to serve but do not eat with us.  Each grade comes to the feast dressed up; PK 3 students are turkeys!  There is an extra charge for this, that will be announced closer to the event.
  • Lessons and Carols:  This takes place the week before SGES breaks for Christmas holidays.  It is a performance by 3rd-8th grade students, everyone is welcome to attend.  It is a candlelight service with songs and scripture reading about the birth of Jesus.
  • Get-Away-Gig:  This is our annual fundraiser.  It is usually held during the month of March.  This is a fun night at SGES where we raise money for our school.  There is a silent auction and live auction.  Tickets will be sold prior to the event and at the door.  Dinner is included in the ticket price.  Each class at SGES will create a masterpiece that will be up for auction, either in the live auction or silent auction.
  • Founder's Day:  This event happens on a Sunday afternoon in May.  This is a time for us to celebrate our school and its history.  A potluck lunch is served.  Students perform songs and speak about what changes have occurred in our school over the past year.
